Jack Puppies- Final Days

Monday had arrived and we slept in as the dog show was over and the plan for today was yet another lazy day of bathing out the show dogs and getting some photos of the 'Jack' puppies. The first litter was born on January 1, 2006 and is out of Am.Col.Ch. Hallmark Jolei Jacks R Better and Am.Can.Ch. Winterholme's Hollywood Glitter "Maria" so this was a Grandfather/Granddaughter breeding through Jack. We have 3 boys and 1 Girl..shown here are 2 M and 1 F.

The next litter was born on March 15, 2006 and is also out of Jack and Can.Ch. Wenrick's Molly in Winterholme. Molly had 3 puppies and the breakdown for this litter was 2 M and 1 F.

For dinner Paul, Wendy's brother and his wife Nancy came to visit. Paul had been a willing conscript to prepare the evenings dinner. It began with 'fresh catch' crab legs from a local fisherman. Wendy had also prepared from scratch her famous caesar salad and garlic bread which left a definite tang and pleasant after taste of aromatic garlic. This was followed by the most tender mouth watering beef and pork ribs anyone has ever prepared. Paul had slow cooked them in his meat smoker all day and warmed them up on the barbecue before eating. They had been marinated ahead of time and basted with a robust barbecue sauce to the point of falling off the bone. Roasted potatoes were all that was required to top off yet another culinary feast. We drank many a variety of liqueurs late into the night before finally saying our goodnights and resting our bodies down for a good nights sleep.

Tuesday was a lazy day as we had been living our previous days of the visit to the fullest extent and we would use today to slow the pace in preparation for the departure tomorrow. We all took advantage of the day and slept well into the morning. After a large breakfast of eggs, sausages, fried tomatoes and mushrooms, bagels, coffee and juice, we all poured into the van for our afternoon at the Rosewood Day Spa for some pampering. Wendy, Wendy and Jenny were welcomed into the Pedicure Suite, which had a beautiful panoramic view of the St. John’s Harbour. There were deep sighs of contentment as feet were slid into the steaming baths of water. Richard was shown to his own personal suite for a Deluxe Body Massage and Relaxation Facial. After the pedicure soak, Wendy and Wendy went to their own suites for the Pedicure completion and their Relaxation Facials and Jenny to her Pedicure completion and her Deluxe Body Massage. The pampering went well into the afternoon with the ultimate of all the spa could offer. After three solid hours we barely managed to walk out, we were so relaxed.

We then took a scenic drive to a well-known Newfoundland grocery, Bidgood’s. Bidgood’s has just about every local delicacy you could ever hope to sample, all freshly homemade, but we had come for the lobster just caught that morning. We handpicked our own (and a few extra for good measure) and after selecting a variety of homemade salads, garlic bread and more wine, we were on our way to the next anticipated stop of the day before returning home for the lobster feast.

Jenny had earlier in the weekend, expressed a desire to have her fortune told. Wendy H. told her that there was a world-renowned psychic outside St. John’s, Shelley Stokes, who told fortunes but her main talent was that she was regularly solicited by police forces in Canada, the United States and worldwide to solve crimes. She had been proven to be extremely accurate and helped to solve missing persons, serial killer and unidentified body crimes. We took the coastal route to her house, a winding road that passed its way through small communities all along the shore of beautiful Conception Bay. We arrived at her house and were shown into “the Parlour”. It fulfilled any preconceived thoughts about what a psychic’s house would look like. Cats everywhere….beads hanging from the doorways, mementos and mystical figurines on shelves and on the table, in the heart of it all, were three binders full of the cases she had helped to solve, complete with actual police documentation of her involvement. Wendy and Richard seemed to take it all with a grain of salt, Jenny was very excited and Wendy H. was thinking she would wait in the car…
It was decided we would go in according to age, it was only fair, and so Jenny was first. The sessions started off with palm reading and then to having ‘a thought’, shuffling a deck of cards and placing them in three piles. This would give a ‘short-term’ reading of approximately six months. Next, tarot cards would be shuffled and laid out and this would give your future…3 years or more. One by one, we went in for the readings…we were all amazed at the accuracy Shelly had of details of our lives. We all had good news, good health and longevity predicted but had other, private details that left some more than others a little overwhelmed. And no, we’re not telling.

It was then back home where we would prepare our lobster dinner. True to Newfoundland style, lobster cannot be boiled in tap water, and so, Wendy H., Richard and Jenny drove to Middle Cove Beach to get fresh sea water to boil them in. Jenny browsed the shores to get a collection of beach rocks she hoped to convince Wendy to do paintings on while Wendy waded knee-deep in the waves collecting the water. By about 9:00pm, we were sitting down to plate loaded with sweet, mouthwatering lobster with side plates topped with our salads and garlic bread and melted garlic butter to dip the lobster in. Complete decadence.

It was very difficult to get on the plane and say our goodbyes to Wendy. THANK YOU Wendy for an awesome week and some wonderful memories. Looking forward to our next visit.
