Day 4 Shopping and
Grooming
Today would be a quiet
day relaxing, bathing Shih Tzu and shopping. Breakfast
was another Colombian treat and featured a soup
called Caldo de Castilla which was a favorite of
the Paisa people of the Medellin area that our host
Martha came from. We were enjoying the thought,
planning and preparation that was going into all
of our meals so we would thoroughly experience the
diverse culture of Colombia. After breakfast Jenny
was off to groom "Remi" and Wendy relaxed
by the waterfall in the garden reading a book. Richard
spent the morning answering e-mail and working on
the travelogue.
It was then off for
some power shopping at the local mall escorted by
Camila and driver Hector. Richard enjoyed the outing
the most as in Jenny's words "It was all things
Richard" as we seemed to focus on men shoes...Richard
ended up with three pair of Colombian leather shoes...Jenny
and Wendy only had time for scouting out stores
when the telephone call came that late lunch was
ready. It was back to Martha's for what became dinner
as it was late in the afternoon and we gorged ourselves
on "Mondogo" soup (vegetables with a variety
of meat featuring pork) followed by the main dish,"Sobrebarrigi"
which was a delicious tender beef smothered in "Guiso"
sauce made with cheese, tomatoes, garlic, onion
and pepper. This was followed by a mouth watering
cheesecake coated in blueberries and strawberry.
After dinner it was
back to the mall with Martha to focus on Jenny and
Wendy...they out did themselves with purchases of
"Chal", colorful poncho type wraps and
matching handbags...perfect for any dinner outing
as well as some souvenirs to bring home. It was
then back to Martha's where we teased her miserably
about the closets chocked full of a wardrobe fit
for a queen including over 100 pairs of boots and
shoes. We had an encore sitting of cheesecake and
coffee before retiring early. We would get up in
the wee hours to get to the show grounds before
6:00 a.m. when the driving restrictions for non
essential vehicles between 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
and again from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. kicked in. Vehicles
with alternating licence plate numbers had to be
off the road to ease traffic congestion caused by
peak rush hour during these times.
