New York Report 2006
Day 1, Wednesday, February
8
The marathon drive to
New York City from Sudbury was long as usual and would
hopefully be the only hardship we would have to endure
as we looked forward a great week in New York city.
We were here for the three specialties on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday followed by the prestigious Westminster
judging on Monday. The format for toy exhibitors is
awesome and a great opportunity to showcase dogs in
the events offered. As well as several promising puppies
we had 5 Shih Tzu entered at the 'Garden'. We were
traveling with our friend and handler Jennifer McClintock
and would meet up with daughter Jody and her assistant
Brittania Kettleson in New York. Joining us also would
be Wendy Howard from Newfoundland and Mandy and Doug
Carlson who would complete our group of fun seekers
eager to break the routine and get away from the winter
blahs and enjoy 'all' New York had to offer. Pat Martello
and friend Terry Jones and Pat and Wagner Fernandez
would also arrive on Thursday.
Wendy Howard had painted
a magnificent head shot of "Emmy" for handler
Mandy and it was precious to see the sparkle and eventual
tear as Mandy saw the painting for the first time.
It will make a nice addition to the Carlson home back
in Oklahoma.
We had a relaxing day
'playing' dog show in the hotels expansive hallway
outside our room as each dog had an opportunity to
show off ,strutting and stacking, for all to see.
That evening it was off to Ollies Noodle House in
Time Square for dinner. The weather in New York was
pleasant and just above freezing. The brisk walk from
33rd street to 44th street was enjoyable as we soaked
up the sounds, smells and sights of New York. It was
off to bed early to get ready for the hectic days
ahead.
Day 2
We awoke after a great nights sleep
and had a delicious takeout breakfast in our room
from the local deli across the street which makes
anything including the giant omelets and bacon and
egg sandwiches we enjoyed. We had a lazy morning chatting
and playing with the dogs in the hallway as we bathed
and dried several for the next days show.
In the afternoon we were off to the
Hard rock Cafe for lunch and then the Soho district
to see the sights and do some shopping. Wendy Howard's
husband Jeff should enjoy her return home with her
shopping visit to Victoria Secret. There was also
time to visit the Macy store located a block from
the hotel and shop at the 9 plus floors of awesome
shopping. Richard was off to Times Square ticket out
let to pick up 50 % sell off tickets for the days
Broadway plays. We chose to go to The Producers from
a wide selection including Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,
Color Purple, The Lion King, Hairspray, Mamma Mia,
Rent and Avenue Q plus many more.
Jody was off to the Janet York party
and the rest of us took a cab up to 44th street to
John's Pizza for a great dinner before The Producers.
It is conveniently located beside the theater where
we were going. The Producers made famous with the
performances of Ethan Lane and Mathew Roderick was
hilarious and quite entertaining. After the theater
we walked back to the Penn Hotel and up to Pat Martello's
room to look at all her dogs and the parade up and
down the hallway watching them all romp and play.
It was then off to bed after another fun filled day
in New York.
